..happenings in Chevy Chase DC

One casualty of hurricane Isabel was the Verizon telephone wiring bundle. It snapped after a tree fell, pulling down a power pole carrying it.
Verizon ran another line, rather than repair the damaged cable. At the time, the linesman assured me that the old line would be removed after all the emergency work was completed, but the wire was still there a year later. Aerial wiring is unsightly, but we accept it as the price we pay for our utilities, however this eyesore was quite unnecessary.
During the recent inspection tour of the Barnaby Trees, I pointed out to the Public Service Commission director, Linda Jordan, the remains of the Verizon telephone wires. Linda agreed that it was poor form for Verizon to have left it there, and that she would bring this to the attention of Verizon.
Well today the Verizon trucks were working on Barnaby Street to remove the abandoned wiring!!
